Frequently Asked Questions at CenterPoint

What are the people like?
Obviously everyone’s different, but at CenterPoint you’ll find people that are real. You won’t find a place where you’re expected to put on a pasted smile and be someone you’re not. The people are genuinely friendly – not fake – and they support and encourage each other in their spiritual journeys. We’re all at different points along that journey and have our own struggles, but at CenterPoint everyone is accepted as s/he (really!!), and you will be encouraged to become all God wants you to be. Our worship size is large enough to be comfortable, and yet small enough to keep a family atmosphere and make real friends.

What should I wear?
One thing you won’t find at CenterPoint Church is a dress code, written or otherwise. Since God looks at the heart, so do we. There’s no need to dress up and put on your “Sunday best” when you visit. Just come as you are and receive a warm welcome. We want to be a place where we can all be completely authentic with God and each other. So dress casually and comfortably.

What do you have for my kids?
NURSERY: The nursery is open every Sunday for infants up to age four. Our attendants will be the same employed people each week with complete background checks.

KIDSPOINT CLASSES: Preschoolers to 5th graders will be dismissed after the opening songs for their individual classes. Each quarter focuses on a different foundational truth about God and consists of fun, themed, age-appropriate lessons.

GRAPPLE: Middle Schoolers will also be dismissed from worship after the opening songs on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month to grapple with important questions about God and living the Christian life.

STUDENT MINISTRY: We have Middle School and Senior High youth groups that meet on various days according to each campus. Students gather for food, a few games, and discussions. Fun events are also scheduled outside of these times.

What will the service be like?
Our worship has Jesus as the CenterPoint and generally looks like this:

• We sing a few songs with our praise band to glorify God together
• We share a few announcements
• We take an offering (when the offering is taken for ministry expenses, don’t feel obligated to give. We’re not after your money (really!), we care about you. So feel free to let the offering plate pass you by and let us give and minister to you as our guest.)
• The campus pastor shares an encouraging and relevant message
• We sing another song and close with a blessing

The service lasts about an hour – give or take a few minutes. You’ll also find that at CenterPoint we will utilize modern arts and technology. We use videos, dramas, movie clips, interviews, dance and other visual arts to engage your heart and mind, all in an attempt to help you worship God in a meaningful way.

Will I have to stand and introduce myself?
No, no, no (we promise!)! At CenterPoint you won’t be singled out or pressured. Simply participate as you please and feel free to worship God as you feel comfortable.

What’s the music like?
Music has the power to speak to the heart. At CenterPoint you’ll experience modern music, led by the campus worship director and supported by our house band and our praise teams. The music is at times upbeat and celebratory and at other times reflective and worshipful.

What are the messages like?
At CenterPoint you’ll hear messages focused on real-life issues. Based solidly on Scripture, they’re designed to answer your spiritual questions and give Biblical insights as to how to deal with the situations we all face in life. Our pastors are dedicated to making the truths of God’s Word understandable and applicable. You will be challenged and uplifted with Biblical principles that will lead you and your family to a healthier life together centered around Christ.

What kind of church is this?
CenterPoint is a Christ-centered, Biblical church designed to connect with your life. Theologically we are very middle of the road – not too liberal, not legalistic. Our worship style is designed to be modern and casual and sensitive to the questions and concerns of spiritual seekers. We are not political and we don’t get caught up in minor theological disputes. We just want to impact lives with the transforming grace of Jesus.

I’m not crazy about organized religion, so is this really for me?
Absolutely. To be honest we’re not that crazy about religion either. But we are crazy about Jesus. And we want to be a gathering of Christ-followers who live out a common purpose – to make him the CenterPoint of our lives. We believe that happens as we grow a relationship with Christ – not as we sink ourselves into religion. You see, we understand that it’s Jesus that changes us – not church. So our hope is that while we gather together for worship and mission, what you see is more of him and less of us.

I’ve been hurt by the church in the past, why should I trust you?
Well, since the church is made up of broken, messed up sinners, it should come as no surprise that its people do hurtful things. Still, we want this to be an accepting place for everyone – a place where people who have been hurt can heal. We believe that the church can be a better reflection of Jesus in this world – caring for broken people and loving everyone where they’re at. So while we can’t promise that we won’t make mistakes (we’re human too), we’ll do our best to make this ministry a safe place for you and your family to grow closer to Christ, led by people with integrity, authenticity, and transparency.
