Kairos Prison Ministry

The mission of Kairos Prison Ministry is to share the transforming love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ to impact the hearts and lives of incarcerated men, women and youth, as well as their families, to become loving and productive citizens of their communities.

In Kairos, volunteers assist in facilitating weekend retreats for those who are incarcerated and work towards building Christian communities in the institutes. During the 72-hour weekend retreat the residents from the institution who attend the retreat hear a series of ten different messages that help them to look at their lives introspectively and help them take steps in a new direction. We offer a non-judgmental environment to let them know that though they have made mistakes, God loves them and grace is available.

Inmates are fed meals that they would normally not receive in prison and provide an overabundance of fresh baked cookies. Cookies are a tangible way to show God’s love to those who are incarcerated. During the weekend retreats everyone in the institution, including staff, receives cookies. On retreat weekends in Marion correctional upwards of eight thousand dozen cookies are collected! The seemingly endless supply of cookies, represents the endless love that God offers us.
